“It is easy to give in on those dark days, but seeing these photos really makes me smile, and reminds me it is all worth it.”
Some takeaways…
- As Churchill said: “Keep buggering on.” Nothing worth doing was ever easily achieved.
- Keep your eyes on the prize – that vision will get you through.
- Savour collective endeavour – teamwork can help get you through.
Some guidance for anyone who is part-way through a long-term project and feeling the pain…
For anyone who is part-way through a long-term project and feeling the pain, this can be a difficult time, so I hope this might help you find some inspiration and the strength to keep going.
I was back at Henley Business School this past weekend for a 3-day workshop as part of the Professional Certificate in Coaching, and ducked into the library to check out their latest stuff. As always, I passed by the MBA section with trepidation, just in case this might be the time when my hitherto-unfulfilled hope of seeing my own dissertation on display might come true…
And guess what?! Here it is! My very own ‘book’ available for lending in a real business school library!
And, to put the cherry on the cake, 5 out of 6 of my learning team’s dissertations were also on display, a nice and poignant reminder of the fact that we all came through this sometimes testing experience together.
Any major undertaking is going to bring times when you feel overwhelmed, and as if you can’t continue. You are swimming across an endless ocean, and you’ve come too far to turn back, yet still there is no end in sight. It is easy to give in on those dark days, but seeing these photos really makes me smile, and reminds me it is all worth it.
So here is what I tell myself…
- In the words of Winston Churchill, “keep buggering on.” Nothing worth doing was ever easily achieved.
- Keep your eyes in the prize. Having that clear vision of the goal in mind will get you through the darkest times.
- Savour collective endeavour and the mutual camaraderie and support that go with it. Your team is an invaluable resource that will get you through.
Kudos to David Steed, Chloe Halpin, Justin Dowling and Joseph Taylor whose works are also here, proudly on public display!
Many thanks also to the lovely staff at the Henley ARC, whose library-stocking choices really made my day!
Thanks for reading.
